June Greenkeeper Update

As we move into summer, we wanted to share an update from the greenkeeping team following what has been one of the driest springs since World War II.

Across the UK, courses have struggled with very low moisture levels and slow grass growth, and we've faced similar challenges here. While we've received around 30mm of rain in the past month—gratefully received—it hasn't fully made up for the deficit over the past two months. The ground remains unusually dry, but with night-time temperatures returning to normal, we're starting to see more consistent growth.

Course Conditions & Maintenance

  • Greens: Now improving steadily, helped by recent fertilisation. They're back to summer height (4mm) and should feel smoother in play
  • Tees & Approaches: We’ve applied a weed, feed & moss killer on these areas. While the recent dry spell affected our overseeding results, we plan to top-dress and overseed again in autumn
  • Fairways: Holes 1–4 and the 9th have been sanded twice in recent weeks to help with drainage in winter
  • Bunkers: Fresh sand has been added and they’ll be edged soon
  • Tree Works: Please note the ash tree to the left of the ladies’ tee on the 7th has been assessed by tree surgeons and removed today for safety reasons

New Holes Progress

  • Remaining tees were seeded around six weeks ago
  • Any bare patches caused by weather will be addressed in autumn with further backfilling and direct drilling
  • The new greens have been cut to 10mm, fairways, tee/approaches to 31mm, rough 56mm and semi-rough now at target heights of 37mm

We're committed to keeping the course in great shape and will continue making improvements as conditions allow.
