Basset Down Complex is close to Junction 16 M4, Swindon. Family run with a fun, hardworking team delivering excellent food and customer service in an amazing setting Located just minutes off J16 M4 (between Bath and Reading). Sitting between Royal Wootton Bassett, Swindon, and Marlborough. During 2021 we expanded our facilities adding two beautiful function rooms, a large contemporary, ‘country feel’ restaurant, bar, and multiple lounge areas offering family meals, drinks with friends, relaxed brunches, lunches, and suppers. We also have a large south facing balcony and patio areas.

Junior Sous Chef

We are currently recruiting for an Experienced Junior Sous Chef to join our team.

Our independently run, mixed operation offers high levels of customer service and serves freshly cooked food in a contemporary rustic environment, with beautiful views over the North Chalk Downs. All this just a few minutes from Junction 16 M4. Our business continues to grow from strength to strength with over 10% year-on-year increase in turnover.

We pride ourselves in offering a freshly cooked, seasonal set of menus in our busy 80 cover restaurant. We are open seven days of the week for Breakfast & Lunch (including a vibrant and busy Sunday Lunch menu). We also offer evening service Thursday, Friday & Saturday.  We plan to start Afternoon Teas this year and want to expand our offering of adhoc themed evenings with specialised menus.

We also have two function rooms which keep our Events Team super busy, hosting all manner of functions from corporate clients and team meetings, through to family celebrations including birthday parties, baby showers and weddings.

We do things a little differently here.  Being independent enables us to be super flexible, try new things, respond quickly to client requests and stay relevant. All of our wonderful team work hard to offer our customers the very best experience possible and take great pride in what we offer, working hard to support each other as well. We are one team.

With an exciting 2024 vision and expansive growth, we are recruiting for a passionate and driven Junior Sous Chef looking to take on their next challenge.

The Role:

Our kitchen is modern and well equipped, and our Head Chef is incredibly passionate about what he does and open to new ideas. He has had experience working with well-known chefs, helping to deliver two rosettes in one year and being recognised in the Big Food Guide. 

So, is this role for you? If you have relevant previous experience working in a fast-paced kitchen offering a variety of menus with fresh ingredients then this may just be the role you are looking for.

It offers a full-time role over a 4 day working week, with no split shifts and a maximum of three evening services.  An example week would be: Thursday-Sunday with shifts varying from 08:00-16:00, 06:00-16:00, 08:00-20:00 & 08:00-16:00.

We need you to:

• Be an engaged, interested and creative chef!
• Deliver a high attention to detail across all prep work
• Be creative and suggest new recipes, menu choices and promotions
• Be confident in running the pass
• Keep a calm and driven response to all levels of service
• Be a strong team player
• Have multiple skills across pastry, garnish & butchery prep
