Our Story

Basset Down Complex is an exciting venue close to Junction 16 M4, Swindon. Family run with a fun, hardworking team delivering excellent food and customer service in an amazing setting.

We're located just minutes off J16 M4 (between Bath and Reading), sitting between Royal Wootton Bassett, Swindon, and Marlborough on the edge of the North Chalk Downs. This established, family run site has been open to the public for over 18 years. During 2021 we expanded our facilities significantly adding two beautiful function rooms, a large contemporary, ‘country feel’ restaurant, bar, and multiple lounge areas offering family meals, drinks with friends, relaxed brunches, lunches, and suppers. We also have a large south facing balcony and patio areas.

In Summer 2021 we opened our popular restaurant, bar/lounge areas and two function rooms. Each room has its own entrance, bar and facilities and can host from 10-200 people. With a contemporary/rustic high spec finish, this cedar clad, vaulted roof building certainly has the ‘wow’ factor. These function rooms are proving extremely popular, and our Events Calendar is filling up rapidly. Bookings range from weddings, birthday & anniversary parties to corporate, networking and team building events.

During the past 18 months our wonderful Events Team has been successful in putting Basset Down Complex on the map. From a standing start they have secured many new clients and delivered over 340 functions. The feedback we have received is superb. Our clients valuing the personal, bespoke service we offer and our absolute ‘can do’ attitude.

The Role:

  • Part Time (0-40 hours/week)
  • Rate of pay dependent on relevant experience (up to £12/hr)

This role is customer facing, fast paced, demands a love of the job and a ‘can do’ attitude. From laying up, working at and clearing down events you will be part of a team working to ensure our clients have a very special experience here at Basset Down Complex.

We are are looking for experienced Events Staff. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, have a passion for good food and service, be calm under pressure and be able to work in a small team. Experience in weddings and conferences is preferred of 100+ covers, fine dining and event bars, together with a strong background in food led establishments. Hours include weekdays, weekends, bank holidays and evenings as required


As part of the Events Team you’ll be an integral member of the team providing high-end, personalised and memorable dining experiences for all clients.

  • Deliver all services to the required standard of excellence
  • Prepare and maintain front of house and back of house areas to a high standard
  • Ensure guests receive a positively unforgettable experience, resulting in repeat business and excellent reputation
  • Dealing with clients’ and team members observations with a sympathetic, professional and proactive attitude

As casual Event Staff you will be required to:

  • Have proven communication and customer service skills
  • Have the ability to be flexible and work at short notice
  • Be able to use your initiative and think on your feet

2nd Chef

Our destination restaurant is busy and has received great reviews. We pride ourselves on offering a wide selection of dishes made with high quality produce, exclusively made in house. All our menus offer a variety of price points, thus ensuring that we meet the needs of our diverse client base. It is important to note that over 60% of our restaurant clients come to Basset Down purely to enjoy our wonderful food, great service and superb restaurant setting.

We are currently open for Breakfast and Lunch (including Sunday Lunch) seven days a week and for Dinner three nights a week. We also have two beautiful function rooms, both of which are busy hosting all manner of celebratory, corporate, wedding and party events.
Despite being new to the area, we have made a big impression on the local market in the last 18 months, our OpenTable and Google ratings are high and solid across food, service and ambience. Why not take a look at the menus on our website?

The Role:
As demand continues to increase, we need to expand our kitchen team and are looking for a full time talented chef. You will have at least 5 years relevant experience; be passionate about food and ingredients, and have a background in high end/fine dining. You will need to be confident in fresh food preparation from scratch and experienced in running the pass. Delivering food throughout the day to both our restaurant and functions, the role is always varied. You will also be responsible for running the kitchen in the absence of the Exec. Chef. This role includes some kitchen management responsibilities.
