We’re pleased to now be able to commence our programme of Spring course maintenance works. The greenkeepers started the works yesterday with cutting and fertilising all greens/ approaches. The “4-0-14” fertiliser used produces a strong, healthy growth without an initial flush. This also contains added iron to improve the colour of the sward (grass cover). Should the weather conditions allow, the team are also planning on spiking the greens next week, which involves the rapid incision of small spikes 3-4 inches long, and about 12mm in diameter. Spiking quickly allows the greens to dry out by letting air in, and therefore encourages all important root growth. This combined with the recent fertilisation and upcoming warmer temperatures, should mean the course recovers quickly and with minimal disruption to play. As soon as conditions allow, Nick and his team will also be spiking and fertilising the tees, shortly followed by seeding and topdressing them.
