Since then, our small business has grown from strength to strength, and led us down the path we find ourselves on today. After getting planning permission to extend our clubhouse in 2018, we’re excited to be opening our brand new facilities in late July 2021. This will include a 78-seater restaurant and bar, two function rooms and 23 meter balcony, alongside our exisiting golf course, footgolf courses and Toptracer driving range.
Supported by our friendly team, we will continue to run Basset Down with customer service sitting at the heart of all we do and look forward to this exciting next chapter!

You may have noticed that there have been a couple of exciting online changes this week here at Basset Down, including this new website and branding.
As you may know, over the past 16 months we have been working hard to create a fabulous new facility, which includes a restaurant, large bar, lounge areas, conference rooms, hot desk facilities and event spaces with indoor and outdoor seating, plus an amazing south facing balcony. From the end of July 2021, our new restaurant will be open to the public to enjoy for any occasion, including family meals, drinks with friends, a quick bite to eat, relaxed weekend brunches, lunches, and suppers (exact opening date still TBC). We will also soon be able to host all manner of celebratory and corporate events in our wonderful function spaces with a capacity of up to 200 upstairs and 60 downstairs. With a contemporary/rustic high spec finish, our cedar clad, vaulted roof building certainly has the ‘wow’ factor.
In terms of the building’s progress, the interior of the clubhouse has changed drastically behind closed doors over the last fortnight. Last week, the builders successfully took down the temporary wall which separated the old clubhouse and the new building– and boy, has it made a difference! There is still plenty of work left to do; however, thanks to an ‘all hands-on deck approach’, we are expecting all contractors to be finished in the next couple of weeks and to be operational in our ‘new home’ by the end of July. We are working hard behind the scenes on some launch events for our first week in the clubhouse and will be sure to share details of these with you soon, along with dates once these have been confirmed.

What a difficult 16 months is has been for us all. What with all the challenges that both COVID-19 and builders have brought us, we are sure that you will be as glad as we are, that the end is finally in sight! We are truly excited to about the future and cannot wait finally be able to bring you, your family, and friends ‘inside’ in style at Basset Down. David grew up locally and developed a keen interest in baking early on, thanks to an aunt with great cake decorating talents. He soon decided that he wanted to pursue a future in food, taking an apprenticeship at the age of 17 and working his way up through the kitchen ranks to become a Head Chef by the age of 24. Whilst studying at college, he commenced his formal career at Blunsdon House Hotel and soon obtained City & Guilds 706/1 & 2.
Since his days of study, Dave has worked in many aspects of the hospitality industry, including pubs, restaurants and contract catering, always following his passion for creating great food using fresh, local produce. Most recently, his varied skills have been used to support others in an 8 year role with Wadworth Brewery as Training & Development Chef. Here he shared his knowledge by teaching workshops, developing menus across a 56-site estate and assisting in staff training in many of the site kitchens. Anyone who works with Dave will know that he brings a calm yet passionate energy to the kitchen, and the sounds of him happily singing as he works are a trademark sign of his enthusiasm and joy of cooking.
When he isn’t working, Dave will often bake delectable cakes, craft gorgeous sugar-work decorations or create unforgettably classy dinner parties for family and friends. On the rare occasion that he steps away from the stoves, he’ll be sitting on a quiet riverbank, fishing and revelling in the peace and quiet.
Amber’s career in events began from a young age, starting from a kitchen porter position, progressing to an event waitress at weekends alongside GCSE’S. It soon became clear that the hospitality industry was the career path for her and on completion of A Levels, she undertook her first position as Trainee Event Manager with a catering company in Bath.
Since then and with over 10 years of experience in the event industry, she has worked with numerous suppliers and clients and has helped to create events to fondly be looked back on. You can rest assured the Amber will work with you to ensure your event is tailored to your requirements and that every aspect of your event is taken care of.
Rosie is the eldest daughter of Basset Down owners, Will & Juliette, and has worked for the family business in some capacity since opening in 2005. After originally starting out behind the cafe counter as a weekend job, Rosie ‘fled the nest’ for university in 2010 and studied Business Management with German at Cardiff University. During her studies, she worked in various busy bars and restaurants in the city centre, gaining valuable hospitality and customer service skills. After completing a successful internship post-graduation at an award-winning PR consultancy, Rosie progressed within the company to a Senior Communications Executive, with clients ranging from shopping centres, to published authors and local hotels.
After moving back to Wiltshire in 2016, Rosie worked in the clubhouse as a Clubhouse Keyholder and Assistant to Juliette. Over the last 5 years, she has now progressed to Manager and helped take the club from strength to strength, increasing membership, widening the club’s presence in the local community and helping manage the club on a day-to-day basis. Rosie continues to ‘head up’ the golfing side of Basset Down and work closely with the PGA professionals and club’s volunteers to increase participation and enjoyment of the game. In her spare time, she enjoys spending (even more!) time with her family, keeping fit and finding hidden gems to eat/drink at with nearest and dearest.
Following a 20-year career in professional football, predominantly for Swindon Town FC, Fraser needed to find a new challenge! Having been involved in various businesses since his retirement from football, Fraser discovered that his passion lay in good food, good wine and hosting people getting together to celebrate any excuse. This led him to take on and run the Silks on the Downs, a hugely respected gastro pub near Marlborough, for the last 6 years.
This same passion for hospitality and the finer things, brought Fraser to join the team at Basset Down, which he describes as 'a hugely exciting opportunity to help launch and develop the next ‘Go To’ destination for the residents of Swindon and the surrounding areas'.
